Tuesday Afternoon Excursion

All registered Delegates, Accompanying Persons and their families and friends are invited to take part in the Afternoon Social Excursion on Tuesday, 5 July 2011. The Conference offers a variety of tours you can choose from.

 

NOTE: The Tuesday Afternoon Social Excursion is only included in the Accompanying Persons' Registration Fee, it is not included in the Delegate's Registration Fee. Delegates may purchase a ticket at the discounted rate of 20 Euro + 19% VAT. There is the possibility to purchase additional tickets for family members and friends.

If you would like to join on of the tours on Tuesday afternoon, please check with your group coordinator if they have registered you for one of the tours. Most of the times, pharmaceutical companies will not register you for any social events. Tickets are limited and additional tickets may not be available on-site. Please contact us at wclc2011-registration@icsevents.com if you are part of a group, but would like to participate in one of the below tours. Fees apply as outlined below.

 

The following tours are available to choose from:

Amsterdam From the Water incl. Rijksmuseum or Van Gogh Museum (4 hours)

A visit to Amsterdam is not complete without having cruised the grachten! A cruise along the canals is a real journey of discovery and a unique way of experiencing the city. Enjoy Amsterdam’s wealth of attractions in and around the water, like the merchant’s mansions, churches and warehouses dating from the 17th century.

The excursion will also include a panoramic drive by coach through Amsterdam and a visit of either the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh Museum:

  • The Rijksmuseum, where you will see the masterpieces of Rembrandt (the ‘Night Watch’), Vermeer and Frans Hals.
  • The Van Gogh Museum, which houses the largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh in the world.

On this extensive bus excursion you will see all that Amsterdam has to offer, from the historical monuments in the centre to the modern architecture from the 21st century. A picture stop at a windmill at the river Amstel is included as well as a visit to the Rembrandthuis, where Rembrandt lived from 1639 until 1659. The house is now a museum showcasing a large collection of Rembrandts etchings.

Bicycle & Walking Tour Jordaan District (4 hours) - Only for participants at the age of 18 or older

Nearly half of all traffic movements in Amsterdam are by bike, so if you want to ‘go Dutch’ the picturesque Jordaan district of Amsterdam is the ideal starting point for a bike tour. You will explore the city along Westertoren, Anne Frank House, Begijnhof, Vondelpark, PC Hooftstraat, Red Light District and Dam Square. The walking tour gives you a very good impression of the history and developments of the Jordaan with its traditional pubs, gardens, architecture and canals.

Volendam & Marken (4 hours)

On this excursion you will drive through typical Dutch scenery and the picturesque town of Monnickendam to Volendam, a traditional fisherman’s village situated on the shores of the former Zuiderzee. You will then carry on by boat to visit Marken, an island linked to the mainland by a dike, where some of the inhabitants still wear the traditional Dutch costumes.

Zaanse Schans & Edam (4 hours)
Zaanse Schans & Edam  

If you already know Amsterdam, don’t miss the Zaanse Schans during your visit to Holland. This unique and delightful village on the banks of the river Zaan is famous for its historic windmills, green wooden houses and wooden shoe manufacturers. Before returning to Amsterdam, you will be taken to the medieval town of Edam.
